ABOUT MIRROR GAME- AB KHEL SHURU

The Mirror Game is a Hindi Language Bollywood psychological thriller. The film’s title is inspired the mirror game, widely known from V. Spolin’s seminal book Improvisation for the Theater where two people improvise motion together. The title is a symbolic reference to mental health issues like schizophrenia and multiple personality disorder that form the central theme of the film.

The film follows University Professor Jay Verma. Stuck in a crumbling marriage and a failing career, Jay seeks a way out of his troubles. Ronnie, an ambitious student, approaches Professor Verma asking for help with a thesis. Verma sees this opportunity and in return for his help, makes Ronnie an offer that he hopes will solve all his problems. Ronnie accepts but soon things start to spiral out of control and Professor Verma begins to question his own sanity.

The film has been produced by Icelerate Films in association with Swen Entertainment (Pvt) Ltd., Industrywalas, Rolling Box Films and Diamond Films.

DIRECTOR’S NOTE

“This film has been the culmination of a long and rewarding journey. A journey that started with a goal I set for myself a few years back, a goal to challenge myself as a writer, to write a story the like of which is rarely written, to write in a genre that barely exists in Indian cinema. To write a story so textured, so layered, to be able to send the audience on different exploratory paths based on their perceptions, yet have them come back to the same stunning conclusion by the time the credits roll. With that goal in mind, Mirror Game started out almost three years ago as quite a few stories do, with a blinking cursor. But when that first word came to me, the rest of the story revealed itself page after page in such a hurry that my limited typing skills was all that held me back.

Now I know many would argue that what I set out to do is not main stream. But that’s the whole idea. I didn’t want to do mainstream. I wanted to make a film for the new breed of Indian audience. An audience that puts substance of content over star power, who hunger for visually well told stories. This audience is discerning, intelligent, more evolved in their choices. They do not take a story at its face value or for its big budget. They expect and deserve a tightly knit story that transposes them into the realistic world of the characters on screen, and that’s what I have attempted to do. And in this attempt, despite of all its intricacies and reveals, I have tried to leave no questions answered, because I know and expect these audience to put everything under the microscope, logic, continuity, plot holes, you name it. Any filmmaker who hides behind grand sets, and a hundred backup dancers to give a film credibility cannot fool the audience. And that filmmaker is definitely not me.

In my quest to make such a film, I have been extremely lucky to have worked with an amazing team across two continents, a bunch of very talented and passionate people. What they had in common was their zeal for the medium and they put in every ounce of that zeal into this film. They made my job so much easier. They inspired me each and every day so much so that there came a point where I wanted this film to fulfill its potential and it’s destiny more for them than for me.

From the time I spent in front of my laptop writing the script, to the feverish pre-production, to those heady days of the 18 day shoot to the sleepless nights spent in post-production, each and every step of the way, the mile stones we crossed have been a constant reminder that the journey is much more fulfilling than the destination. But now that we are at the destination and the film is finally done, I genuinely hope that the people watch it and appreciate it for its sincerity, for furthering content based, intelligent cinema, but most importantly for the incredible talents and efforts of its cast and crew.

Hope you enjoy watching this film as much as I have enjoyed making it.”
